no-cost EMT training program for working women

no-cost EMT training program for working women, funded by the Eleanor Foundation and facilitated by us here at ICNC.  Both organizations are registered nonprofits.  The EMT program fosters economic self-sufficiency in Chicago women by providing them with an opportunity to learn tangible job skills and set them on the path to lasting careers in the health care field.  Application for the eight-month course is open to single, employed women living or working in Chicago and earning less than $40,000 a year, and is available at www.icnctraining.org .

PRODUCTION FABRICATOR


Responsibilities:           Operate CNC Strippet, manual break press, shears and spot weld equipment

Specific Duties:

·         Programming experience a plus
·         Use micrometers, calipers, rules and other measuring instruments
·         Set-up jobs and choose proper tools for the application
·         Run programs and verify accuracy by reading drawings and comparing to parts
·         Apply knowledge of fabrication theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques
·         Accurately cut material to drawing
·         Run production to standard rate
·         Able to lift 50 pounds

Qualifications
·         Manufacturing experience a must
·         Ability to handle many projects concurrently and independently
·         Excellent interpersonal, collaboration and problem solving skills
·         Trained in use of Fanuc, Apple and Windows controls
·         Perform routine maintenance
·         Interpret blueprints and sketches, use machinery tools and display tooling knowledge and proficiency on a variety of machine tools

Requirements: Minimum of 3 years experience as a fabricator (2 year technical degree preferred)
Good communication skills with fluency in English. Working knowledge of Windows and Excel  a plus.

JARC Welding Training

JARC is announcing a new Welding Training to begin in late July and run year round. We are currently recruiting the first class. The first step in applying to the program is to attend an orientation. The next orientation will be held on July 6th at 9am at 4432 N. Ravenswood. Registration is not necessary. In order to qualify for this FREE training, applicants must be WIA eligible.

This 10 week training will focus primary on MIG welding and will offer AWS certification as well as Forklift licensing and OSHA general industry classes. In addition, JARC will help students with support services such as weekly CTA fare cards and job placement assistance. Englewood Summer Gardening Program Is Hiring

Openlands just found out that we will have funding from the state to run a Youth Conservation Corps program again this summer!! We are looking for someone in the community who must have a background in teaching and/or working with high school students and has experience or training in gardening and horticulture. The program has to start June 27th with students, so please send me a resume by tomorrow at 10am if you are interested.

General Program Information:

This summer program will last 6 weeks starting June 27th and will run through August 5th. It will support school or community greening projects when schools are not in session (NOW!) and expose youth to employment opportunities in the greening industry. It is important that students work at their own school or home communities to make a positive impact that they will see on a regular basis. Openlands has been running summer youth employment programs for 12 years, incorporating current best practices and lessons learned.

Program Objectives

· provide summer jobs for Chicago youth in safe situations close to the students’ homes or at their school

· support outdoor learning landscapes at schools or provide skilled physical assistance to the adult managers of each neighborhood’s community gardens;

· increase students’ awareness of their own community and their desire to improve it

· promote positive inter-generational communication and respect;

· teach job readiness, team work, and good work and study habits;

· provide youth with a learning experience that broadens their horizons and opens their eyes to new possibilities for future schooling, careers and interests;

· youth will learn more about the natural environment all around them

Job Description – general:

  • One Crew Leader will be hired to manage 10 students in community gardens or 15 students in a school site, 30 hours per week average
  • Crew Leader will have to recruit, interview and hire students.
  • 20 hours per week for youth because of summer heat and physical work
  • Crew Leader training before program starts
  • Youth orientation at beginning of program, training throughout the program
