It will also highlight how schools  are incorporating its major components (e.g., tiered, research-based instruction and interventions; assessments to determine student needs; progress monitoring) into their daily practices to maximize the results of instruction and make better use of existing resources. IMPLEMENTING YOUTH PREPAREDNESS INTO YOUR ORGANIZATION PROGRAM



DHS/FEMA and the Red Cross are kicking off a nationwide series of workshops starting in Chicago to introduce a resilient communities initiative, focusing on educating our youth in disaster preparedness.

This workshop will provide participants with information on how their organization can integrate preparedness education into their program offerings. You will hear from experts who have developed and delivered some of the most successful youth preparedness programs across the country. In discussing their programs, they will discuss the following:
• Getting Started & Engaging Partners
• Identifying Curriculum
• Implementing Program
• Promoting Program • Sustainment & Evaluation

All participants will receive a “how to” guide for implementing preparedness programs as well as a catalog of youth preparedness resources. Training is June 24, 2011

Computer Skills Starts May 9

The next session of our always-popular Computer Skills starts May 9, 2011. We have a few slots left. In order to register, prospective trainees must complete our intake process. To get your clients started, have them call Ebony McLaurin, Client Services Associate, at 773-929-5552 ext. 228. After completing a screening interview over the phone, prospective trainees will be asked to come in on Tuesday, April 26 from 10:30 to 2:00, with a follow-up session the following Thursday, April 28, from 10:30 to 2:00. NOTE: The same activites will take place on the same schedule the following week as well. Please also note that we ordinarily do not accept walk-in applicants. Applicants MUST complete a screening interview on the phone before attending an on-site information session. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This 7-week program teaches keyboarding, computer fundamentals, the Internet and World Wide Web, e-mail, Word, Excel and, time permitting, PowerPoint. The power-packed curriculum also includes modules on job readiness and financial education. Participants who take full advantage of our job-placement services usually get jobs.
