This intensive three-day grant proposal workshop is geared for: 1) those who wish to strengthen their grant writing skills and 2) beginners who wish to acquire and master the techniques of preparing, writing and winning proposals from various funding agencies. The center of attention will be on how to effectively write proposals in times of keen competition and limited resources. Much has happened in new regulations and in approaches to grant writing, be it for the researcher in the sciences and social sciences, education and non-profit professionals.
Participants Will Learn How to:
1. Navigate the world of grant procurement
2. Research and identify potential funding sources
3. Address the guidelines of federal and foundation applications
4. Focus foundation and corporate giving for the State of Illinois
5. Understand the new federal guidelines for writing winning grants
6. Know the review process and how to address key points for reviewers
7. Write winning grants that stand out against scores of competing submissions
8. Develop focused and realistic budgets
9. Demonstrate that one’s proposal merits excellence and innovation
10. Package professional grant submissions

SUMMER JOBS In Banking, Accounting, Law and Engineering - Apply by April 8th

Summer Employment for High School Students The Chicago Summer Business Institute (CSBI) provides a six-week paid internship program for high school sophomores and juniors each summer. These internships take place at various banks, accounting, law and engineering firms throughout the Loop and business districts. In conjunction with a 28-hour work week, students attend half-day classroom seminars and workshops every week where they learn about the financial markets, attend seminars given by successful business executives, and participate in team building programs. Eligibility Requirements: Student must currently be a Sophomore or Junior (ages 15 and under must have a valid work permit); Student must have a valid social security card; Student must have a 3.0 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale);

Student must attend either a public, parochial or private high school;
Student must be a resident of the City of Chicago; and
Student must have an annual family income of $60,000 a year or less and a parent/guardian must sign Certificate of Income Verification Form

Job Readiness Workshop:
Free job readiness workshop for CSBI applicants on Saturday, April 2, 2011. Workshop highlights include creating effective resumes, conducting successful interviews, making positive first impressions and following office etiquette. Space is limited and registration is required.

Financial Assistance Program

Thank you for inquiring about the Chicago Park District’s summer day camp financial assistance program. Summer day camp programs can be viewed online at www.chicagoparkdistrict.com, beginning Monday, March 21^st. Registration begins online at 9 a.m., Monday, April 4^th and In-person registration begins at most parks Saturday, April 9, 2011.

Income guidelines for Chicago Park District’s financial assistance program is based on guidelines issued by the United States Department of Agriculture for free and reduced fee lunch programs.

• Financial Assistance awards are only available to City of Chicago residents.

• Applicants must provide proof of entitlement for reduced or free lunch program from the patron’s school. Applicants that do not participate in the school lunch program can prove eligibility by providing income verification (i.e., 2011 recent pay stubs for last 30 days, AFDC / TANF case #, and a copy of a recent IRS 1040 form, etc.) (Information submitted is confidential and may not be a matter of the public record of the Chicago Park District)
• Applicants that do not qualify for financial assistance may inquire about the payment plan option at your local park.

· Applicants must bring copies of the required documents to one of the processing sites beginning April 11^th through June 13^th during the established hours.

· The Chicago Park District has established “Financial Assistance Processing Centers” at various parks across the city where parents can submit required paperwork and confirm their eligibility. Once approved the applicant should present the award at their desired park location with their portion of the camp fee for the registration process.

· Eligibility for financial assistance does not guarantee a slot for day camp and cannot be used in conjunction with any other reduced/voucher programs. Recipients must register in person at their desired camp location.

Funds are limited and subject to availability

Gallery Exhibition

Recurrent Dreams Project is a collaboration between Granite Amit, an artist and therapist, and 10 youth participants of the Southwest Youth Collaborative (SWYC) within the vibrant University of Hip Hop venue.

As these youth embraced their identities, histories, and powerful narratives, Amit and SWYC witnessed their powerful transformation into young talented artists — at times struggling with issues of absent or incarcerated parents and semi-homelessness to homelessness. Using urban dance and visual art forms, including break-dance, footwork, graffiti, and mural art, they communicated their narratives with resiliency, vitality, brilliance, courage, integrity, and talent. In a process led by Amit, they developed artistic pieces printed on lenticular lenses articulating their changing self-perceptions and their roles in society.

Recurrent dreams are psychological substances, rooted in the past, which are forced to surface, to be decoded and recognized by the waking mind as a reality. These youth continuously communicate their dreams for the future to be recognized and realized as artist.

The City Youth Council SUMMER Program begins Monday, June 27, and ends Friday, August 19, 2011. Work about150 hours over the course of the summer: 3-5 days per week working with fellow council members researching and developing recommendations on your council’s issue (Education, Teen Health, and a city-wide Youth Commission Taskforce) Research retreat during July. During the school year councils will meet at least twice per month, but sometimes more frequently depending on our work.

If you are currently between the ages of 15 and 23, please fill out an application and return it to your teacher or the Mikva Challenge by Friday, April 15, 2011.
