1.What made you decide to start Purple Butterfly Running Group, and when did the group officially start? I decided to start PBRC because I love running, and I wanted to introduce more women of color to the sport. At the starting line of all my races a friend and I would jokingly count the number of black women. I decided that the number should increase. I want women to know that running is challenging but rewarding.

2. What types of challenges did you run into when you started the group? My biggest challenge has been to accept that I am one person and a lot of the things that I want to happen can't happen right away. Starting a running group is a lot more work than I anticipated, and I don't recommend starting one alone. If you have the desire to start a group make sure you have one or more dedicated partners to help with all the responsibilities. I have also found it difficult to get dedicated volunteers for the various running levels that PBRC has.

3. We get a lot of emails from readers who are looking to start a running group in their area. What advice do you have for them, and what do they need to know to get started?
As I mentioned before, do not start your group alone. Make sure you have a partner to share the responsibilities. Run with other organized running groups so that you can get a general idea of how successful running groups operate and then add your own creative ideas to your group. There are also great resources on the web that provide great information on starting a running club, do your research before you start.

4. I have watched PBRC grow over the past couple of months. How do you market the group in order to get more runners to come out? I do not have a magic marketing secret. Every three months PBRC starts a new beginner class. Before our new class starts, I send a mass email to everyone on my contact list and they pass it along to any interested parties. I have also been blessed with a great group of ladies who tell everyone they see about our club so I get several emails a week from ladies inquiring about my club because they have met a member somewhere. I also have a Facebook page, twitter account and a blog.

5. What is your long-term plan for PBRC? I want to continue to expose as many women of color to running as possible. I would love to have regular volunteers and a more structured program every week. I would also like to turn our club into a non-profit and start a program for middle school girls.

If you are an experienced Foster Care Case Worker looking to extend your skills and talents in new arena, you will find a challenging but gratifying opportunity as a CWS II in our Specialized Foster Care Program. You will need to provide case management and advocacy services to our clients, while working closely with our foster parents. Some responsibilities include participating in client service planning, clinical consultations, attending case reviews and court hearings, and completing various documentation. This direct service position offers lots of contact with the children during visits in the foster homes and with their biological families.


Job Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree with five (5) years of Specialized Foster Care experience is required. Master's Degree preferred with three (3) years of Specialized Foster Care experience. Candidate should have CERAP and Illinois Child Welfare Licensure. Sacwis training is highly preferred. Must have an operable car with valid Illinois Driver License with full coverage auto insurance. Are you passionate about working with pediatric, adolescents and young adults? If so, The Youth Campus has a job for you. The applicant must have the proven ability to organize and prioritize work and demands while remaining flexible and patient. The applicant must have the skills, medical knowledge, and the ability to be aware of and be responsive to changes in the client's medical condition for physical assessments and for side effects of medication dosages. Proficient in the knowledge and application of Nursing Best Practice methods in medical treatment. The applicant for this position will provide trainings to our Foster Parents and direct staff personnel on medical preventative treatment issues pertinent to the population within our Residential Treatment program and to our Family Based Services Staff and Foster Parents on medically preventative treatment issues pertinent to MCP children and families. Responsible for scheduling home visits based on client's medical needs at least quarterly to perform basic physical assessments of child.


Job Requirements:

SAVE Safety Net Works and the Neighborhood Recovery Initiative

The state is in jeopardy of losing two major violence prevention programs. Safety Networks has serviced over 13,000 high risk youth across the state of Illinois, and the Neighborhood Recovery Initiative will provide over 3430 jobs for youth and adults in neighborhoods greatly impacted by violence. These programs provide mentoring reentry service, school based counseling, parent leadership programs, and outh leadership development services in over 26 communities

On Wednesday, May 18th, former All-Pro Chicago Bear Jerry Azumah, w/ the help of some of his celebrity and athlete friends, will be raising funds for Azumah’s non-profit organization, the Azumah Student Assistance Program (ASAP) Foundation. ASAP’s 3rd Annual Signature Fundraiser, is a celebrity bowling tournament taking place at Lucky Strike Lanes from 6PM – 10PM. All of the proceeds raised at the event will go directly to ASAP’s scholarship fund that will assist underprivileged youth attending private institutions at the middle and high school levels.
